Available Pool Jobs 

Lifeguard:  Lifeguards are critical in enforcing pool safety rules and regulations.  Lifeguards also provide care for guests during water rescues, assists, and/or first aid emergencies.  Placement is contingent on completing and passing a lifeguard certification course. Applicants must be at least 16 years of age to register for the course and gain certification.  Starting pay is $8.75 per hour.  
 

Concessions/Admissions:  Concession and admission staff members are the first point of contact with the general public. They assist guests with questions and concerns regarding aquatic facilities and programs.  Applicants must be at least 16 years of age and must attend orientation on May 16 from 1-5pm. Starting pay is $7.75 per hour.  

 
Swim Instructor:  Individuals interested in working as a summer swim instructor are trained to provide specific swim techniques and skills to infants through adults. All instructor candidates must be available to teach mornings and/or evenings, Monday through Friday during June and July.  Experience in swimming-related programs and working with children preferred.  Applicants must be at least 16 years of age and complete training with the City of Garland Swim Program.  Starting pay is $8.75 per hour.   
 
Pool Job Training Courses

Lifeguard Certification Training
Age 16 and up
$80
All lifeguards working for the City of Garland Parks and Recreation Department must complete lifeguard training under Jeff Ellis and Associates and its City of Garland certified instructors. This license is valid only for the City of Garland.  Registration does not guarantee completion of course, a passing score, or certification to work with the City of Garland Aquatics.   
 

Lifeguard Training - Spring Break Class
Tuesday through Friday, March 17, 18, 19, 20
The first day of class will be held at Audubon Recreation Center, 440 Oates Road, 9am-5pm.  All additional training is held at Oak Point Pool in Plano, 6000 Jupiter Road, from 9-5pm.  Candidates must attend all class dates and times.  There are no make up dates.  


Lifeguard Training - April Class
Friday-Sunday for 2 weeks, April 17, 18, 19, 25, 26 
The first day of class will be held at Granger Recreation Center, 1310 West Ave F, from 4-9 pm.  Additional training is held at Rowlinson Natatorium in Plano.  Saturday classes are 9am-5pm.  Sunday classes are 1pm-6pm Candidates must attend all class dates and times.  There are no make up dates. 


Lifeguard Training - May Class 
Saturday, Monday-Thursday, May 9, 11, 12, 13, 14 
Saturday class will be held at the Garland Senior Activity Center, 600 W. Ave A from 9am-5pm.  Remaining class days will be held at Surf and Swim (4:00-8:30pm).  Candidates must attend all class dates and times.  There are no make up dates. 

Lifeguard Training – June Class
Monday-Friday, June 8-12
All classes will be held at Surf and Swim, 440 Oates Road, from 8am-1pm.  Candidates must attend all class dates and times.  There are no make up dates.

Concessions/Admissions Staff Mandatory Orientation

The class is held at Audubon Recreation Center from 1-5pm.  Training is mandatory for all staff members who have been interviewed and selected for summer employment in admissions or concessions.  Contact 972.205.2757 to sign up.
