Garland, Texas - July 25, 2008 -- The Texas Public Power Association (TPPA) recognized Garland Mayor Ronald E. Jones with one of its most prestigious honors, the Jack Miller Public Service Award.

On Wednesday, July 23, TPPA recognized Mayor Jones for his leadership and for the significant contributions he has made to the City of Garland and to Garland Power & Light, the third-largest municipal utility in Texas and the 39th largest in the nation.
“GP&L plays such a vital role in our community by providing a reliable source of power to our citizens and as a partner in countless worthwhile endeavors,” says Mayor Jones. “Our goal is for Garland to be a City of Choice. GP&L is a key component toward accomplishing that goal.”
Formed in 1978, the Texas Public Power Association (TPPA) represents the interests of public power providers in the state of Texas including municipally owned electric utilities, river authorities, joint action agencies, and some electric cooperatives. TPPA provides resources through which members may extend their influence on public policy matters affecting the public power industry.
