Garland - July 3, 2008 -- In recognition of the growing diversity of Garland’s population and the increasing need to communicate effectively and positively in a multicultural environment; the Community Multicultural Commission (CMC) along with the Garland City Council prepared a proclamation declaring July as Mutual Cultural Respect Month for the City of Garland.
The Garland City Council welcomes and embraces all persons without regard to disability, age, religion or ethnicity and created the CMC to encourage unity and to address community concerns and needs that might arise from diverse populations.
Mutual Cultural Respect Month is designed to encourage discussions across racial and ethnic lines, to enhance the esprit de corps among its diverse populations, celebrating our similarities while embracing our differences.
The Mayor, in the reading of the proclamation, “encourages the citizens of Garland to celebrate freedom and the independence of our nation and to remember to celebrate our dependence on each other, our community, our cultures, and all our citizens”.
