The past few months have been both busy and challenging for City Council and City Management. Together we effectively and responsibly dealt with difficult situations in making decisions relating to the passing of the City’s 2008-2009 budget. I am confident this budget enables the City to maintain a high quality of service delivery and safety for our city. Public safety has been enhanced by equipping every fire station with an ambulance.
The City of Garland, City Council and the Garland Chamber of Commerce recently hosted a delegation from the Town of Luzhu, in Taiwan along with the Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce. They visited City Hall, the Garland Chamber of Commerce and hosted a unique and intriguing cultural dance at the Granville Arts Center. As we develop this friendly relationship with the Town of Luzhu we will be able to work together to establish more international relationships for our community and for economic development.
On September 6, the DFW Asian American Citizens Council named Garland its City of the Year, commending Garland for its commitment to cultural diversity and outreach to the Asian American Community. I was honored to accept this recognition on behalf or our City.
